History

Street Child Care and Welfare Initiative is a new NGO registered in Nigeria the 22nd of February 2008. SCCWI was the result of two French speaking people willing to work with and for street children in Lagos.
In a year time, SCCWI observed, analyzed and spent time to understand the context in which street children are living in Nigeria. To visit some families of these children, to discover what is at stake. SCCWI began by responding to their basic needs for food, clothing, healthcare and accommodation. After lots of collaboration with other NGO’s in Nigeria as well as the participation of all the street children, SCCWI decided to develop a long-term strategy based on family reunification, education and recreation activities.
Street Child Care and Welfare Initiative has now opened a centre of rehabilitation to take care of 25 street boys aged 8 to 15 years coming from all parts of Nigeria. SCCWI wants to protect them from dangers of the streets, ensure them with their rights, and give them the keys of education.
